The Journal, February 2007 “Libby loves putting on the glitz” cover story, page 4&5

| | Lady Manton is busy making subtle changes to Houghton Hall but she still found time to be one of the organisers of autumn’s Hot Couture fashion show in aid of endangered Howden Minster. She talks to Sue Mason about her love of fashion and art and about her life on one of East Yorkshire’s largest country estates… …Dressed in spikey-heeled brown suede boots, a wrap dress from T K Maxx and a second-hand designer coat, she tells me that although she loves clothes, she hates designer price tags. “I like to look good but if I had money I’d prefer to spend it on painting as an investment for my children,” she says. Her favourite designer is Vivienne Westwood (she wore a Westwood top to Hot Couture, with a skirt she’d made herself) and she also likes Ghost, bought at Harvey Nichols. If she’s in London she trawls the dress agencies and second-hand clothes shops, but in Yorkshire she loves the clothes to be found at Bunty & Co., in Pocklington, and at IClaudia, in Hessle. |
