Pukka Magazine, October/November 2009 If you love unique clothing and want a refreshing change from the highstreet, then you’ll simply love Bunty & Co. Situated in Pocklington on the outskirts of York, the boutique is an Aladdin’s cave of gorgeous clothing, accessories, footwear and jewellery. Owner Nicola Scott (or Bunty to her friends) graduated from Leeds College of Art & Design with First Class Honours in Textile Design in 2003 and then trained for 3 years at designer independent Sarah Coggles in York. This was where Nicola developed her passion for retail. It was also during these 3 years, whilst Nicola was also modelling part-time in Leeds, that she met young Yorkshire fashion designer Lisa Jayne Dann and realised that there was so much talent right on her doorstep. Nicola decided that she wanted to create a girls’ shopping paradise in her local market town which would showcase the talents of local designers alongside larger boutique brands, and this was where Bunty & Co. was born… And a paradise it certainly is. With a diverse mix of designer brands to suit every pocket, Bunty & Co. has brought a little bit of style to the East Riding. From quirky young fashion labels such as Numph, Kal Kaur Rai and Peoples Market, to more exclusive boutique collections by Andersen & Lauth and Casch Copenhagen, mums and daughters can shop under one roof, all within a relaxing, homely space. Bunty & Co. is proud to be associated with Yorkshire independent labels such as Lisa Jayne Dann, Love Our Stuff (who have recently had pieces selected to appear on Emmerdale), Trout And Pout, Blonde And Wise (who have dressed the likes of Big Brother’s Carly) and accessory designer Nicola Dann, as well as offering customers luxury denim brands SOS and Paige Premium Denim, footwear by UGG Australia and H by Hudson, and accessories from Johnny Loves Rosie, Nica and Stolen Thunder. The boutique also carries a selection of limited edition prom dresses and occasion dresses by Middlesbrough designer and celebrity favourite Kate Fearnley, which are displayed in a beautiful French wardrobe within the boutique. It certainly isn’t hard to see why celebrity make-up artist Jemma Kidd is a fan of the boutique. She fell in love with a beautiful Lisa Jayne Dann trench coat and matching Nicola Dann bag at Bunty & Co.’s stand at the Clothes Show Live last December. Bunty’s online shop launched just before Christmas last year and it is just as quirky and fun as the boutique itself. With cute little paper dolls helping you select your purchases throughout the site it really is a must-see… a refreshing change from every other fashion website, with categories such as ‘Bunty’s Closet’ and ‘One Step…Two Steps…’ to guide you through clothing and footwear. Bunty & Co. also sells a range of own-label hoodies and tees which were a complete sell-out at their launch at Clothes Show Live last December. The must-have item of the moment is the ‘Bunty Loves You More Than Tea’ hoodie which comes in baby pink and lemon yellow. Last month, Nicola was lucky enough to meet Harry Potter actress Bonnie Wright who plays Ginny Weasley, and was thrilled when Bonnie took two Bunty Loves You hoodies for herself and Emma Watson who plays Hermione Granger. Nicola is currently designing some new additions to the Bunty & Co. range which will be on sale in the boutique and online in the run up to Christmas. You can also get your hands on the full Bunty & Co. range at Clothes Show Live at Birmingham’s NEC from 4th-9th December. We love Bunty more than tea!
